Justine 2021

Portraiture has always been an important part of my practice. Rather than pursuing realism, I’m interested in expressive lines, unexpected colours and the emotional presence of a face. These portraits move between observation and interpretation, often using fluorescent pigments, coloured paper and loose, painterly marks.

An ongoing series of portraits of my partner, Justine. Sometimes intimate, sometimes playful, these drawings document the everyday presence of someone who has become one of the recurring subjects of my work.
